What is initial commissioning?

During initial commissioning, a plant or machine is put into operation for the first time. Initial commissioning usually involves checking various functions and components. This is to ensure that the safety requirements are met and that the equipment can thus be put into operation. Various technical rules for operational safety (TRBS) must be observed during initial commissioning.

What must be observed before initial commissioning?

A safety inspection or assessment must be carried out before initial commissioning. According to § 4 para. 1 of the Betriebssicherheitsverordnung (BetrSichV), work equipment (plant, machinery, etc.) may only be used after it has been tested for safety. In doing so, the employer is obliged to carry out a risk assessment, take any necessary protective measures and determine the general safety of the equipment.
