Cloud software selection: What you should look out for

What mandatory requirements should be met for the software implementation to be successful?

Efficient use and sharing of complete documentation

The 4 factors at a glance

  1. User-friendliness and accessibility: The software interface must be intuitive and easy to use, accessible on mobile devices and, depending on the internationality of the team, ideally multilingual.

  2. Security and data protection: The software must of course be GDPR-compliant. Even better is additional certification in accordance with ISO 27001, which guarantees increased security. Make sure you also use data encryption, role-based access controls and host cloud solutions with a large provider such as Microsoft, Google or Amazon. This offers additional protection from huge IT security teams. Involve your IT team in the selection process from the outset, as they are best placed to advise you.

  3. Integration into existing systems: Even if you are now thinking that integration into your system landscape is certainly not the first step, you should already pay attention to what options the platform offers when selecting the software. Don't just let the software provider advise you here, but take a look at the documentation on the interface options and customer examples provided by the software provider. After the past few years with many isolated solutions, we all understand that only ideally networked systems offer truly long-term and sustainable added value.

  4. Training and support: New software always requires a certain amount of training (although this should be limited if it is user-friendly). Make sure that your software provider provides training material, has an easily accessible and competent support team and gives you the opportunity to submit feedback on the software.
